Lufthansa sets new Sustainability Report
FRANKFURT. Since today is the new edition of the sustainability report “Balance” Lufthansa. “Balance” provides comprehensive information about the activities, progress and goals of the Lufthansa Group in the fields of ecology, economy, society and social affairs. Wolfgang Mayrhuber, Chairman of Deutsche Lufthansa says: “For all its need for economic success, we at Lufthansa the special responsibility of protecting the environment always aware. Environmental protection, is and will remain a major corporate goal of Lufthansa.”

Lufthansa has succeeded since 1991 its transport performance of CO2 emissions to decouple. The transport capacity increased in the last 17 years by 232 percent, consumption of kerosene only by 121 percent. This means that around half of the growth took place without the environment in addition to this strain. In 2007, the actual average consumption of the Lufthansa fleet flown per passenger per 100 km of exactly 4.32 liter of kerosene.
In particular, the continuous fleet renewal allows the specific fuel consumption should be reduced. This requires a Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 today only about 3.5 liters per passenger. The average age of all Lufthansa is 40.3 years. Frankfurt has 35,222 employees and posted the largest site of the Group: Total Lufthansa employs 64,434 people in Germany.
